Quality and efficiency in focus when Ullmann chooses CEJN ADX for their Auto-Dock solution
UllmannVG AG designs and manufactures Auto-Dock systems for 2 to 6 and 6 to 12-tonnes excavators. The systems, equipped with CEJN ADX, enable a safer and more efficient connection without human interaction when changing hydraulic attachments. “CEJN stands for high quality and by using CEJN ADX, we ensure a premium coupling solution”, says Cédric Ullmann, Deputy Managing Director and Project Manager of Technology and Sales at Ullmann.
Increasing machine operation costs have led to higher demands for more efficient solutions within the construction industry. Switzerland has come a long way in the transition towards Auto-Dock solutions, a solution that enables a more efficient tool change saving both time and increasing machine output.
Ullmann started as a repair workshop in 1991. Today they are the Swiss market leader for trade, construction, attachment maintenance, and wear parts for all types of earthmoving and construction machinery. To serve the Swiss market even better, UllmannVG AG developed two Auto-Dock systems for 2 to 6 and 6 to 12-tonnes excavators (HUM10-AD and HUM16-AD) using CEJN ADX, an important addition to the existing product range.
Cédric Ullmann is the second-generation owner of the company and the person behind the development of the Auto-Dock solution. The excavators with this system are all equipped with CEJN ADX quick connect couplings. “The CEJN ADX works really well in the system and ensures a high-quality coupling solution that our customers can rely on”, Ullmann says.

Increasing demand for machine suppliers
The need for more advanced systems in the excavator design is something that continuously increases. Customers often have special requests and need special designs. “It is our job to listen to the customer and customize a solution adjusted to their specific needs”, Ullmann says.
Batrag Tiefbau AG, a customer of Ullmann that works in the recycling and demolition industry, has also noticed the more demanding machinery requests. “Operators know their value on the market and require more from their employers”, says Jürg Hahn, owner of Batrag Tiefbau AG. “We must therefore ensure that we have systems that meet up with their requirements and are of premium quality, otherwise they might go to someone else,” he continues.

Batrag Tiefbau AG has installed the Auto-Dock system from Ullman into their 6 to 12-tonnes excavators, something that has been very beneficial when using many different hydraulic tools. “The system makes it easier to connect, saves valuable time, and ensures correct connections every time,” Hahn says. He also points out that by using a system like this, there is no risk of misuse of attachments. “As the operator doesn’t have to leave the cab, they are more likely to do the change which, unfortunately, is not always the case when manually handling the system.”

CEJN ADX – the key in the Auto-Dock system
The Auto-Dock system solution was originally Cédric Ullmann’s university master project. When he entered the family business in 2017, he started to develop and implement the Auto-Dock system. From the start, he has worked with CEJN for the coupling solution, something that is well appreciated by the customers of Ullmann. “The CEJN brand is well known for its high quality in Switzerland”, Ullmann says and continues.
“We always have the pressure that the coupling system in the design must work perfectly and by using a premium product like CEJN ADX, we and our customers know that the coupling system is as good as it can be”, he says.
High standards on business partners
It is of the highest importance for Ullmann that their customers can rely on them and always feel that they have the support they need. They have, for example, developed a service kit so that the customers always have the tools and equipment they need if a change or repair of equipment is needed. “Having a service kit nearby, the machine will not risk a standstill”, Ullmann said.
The high standards of them as a supplier also reflect how they evaluate potential business partners. “We develop and provide premium products, and we demand the same from our suppliers”, he says and continues. “We have worked with CEJN from the beginning of this project and we have always gotten good support and we know that we can rely on them, and the products provided to us”.
Ullmann also points out the importance of having a reliable and flexible partner that can adjust to customer needs. “CEJN developed, exclusively for us, a special variant of the ADX coupling and nipple set to fit our HUM10-AD, and it worked perfectly from the beginning.”
